Amanda Anisimova marked turning 25 in style, dispatching fellow American Ashlyn Krueger 6-1, 6-3 to sail into the second round of the US Open on Monday.
The contest lasted just 72 minutes, and Anisimova was utterly dominant throughout. She struck 25 winners - a neat coincidence matching her new age - and broke Krueger's serve five times while saving ten of eleven break points she faced.
Anisimova's work at the net was particularly clinical. She won 11 of 13 points when venturing forward, whereas Krueger managed just one from four net approaches. It was a comprehensive display that left little doubt about who controlled proceedings.
The victory took Anisimova's record against American opponents on the WTA Tour to 25-22, while her Grand Slam first-round record now stands at an impressive 19-8. She has not fallen at the opening hurdle since the 2024 US Open.
Next up is Austria's Lilli Tagger, who claimed her maiden Grand Slam main-draw victory by beating Tamara Korpatsch. It promises to be an intriguing encounter against a player riding a wave of confidence on the biggest stage.
