Video Review Technology Returns

Italy's top women's football division will retain its Football Video Support system for the 2026/27 campaign, building on its debut last season. The technology serves as an alternative to traditional VAR, offering match officials a streamlined review tool in competitions where full VAR infrastructure isn't available.

Upgraded Camera Coverage

All twelve Serie A Women clubs will see new cameras installed at both penalty areas in their stadiums, expanding the number of angles available for reviews. The enhancement was agreed during a meeting between the clubs and the Italian Referee Association AIA, as Soccerdonna reports.

How It Works

Match referees can consult a pitchside monitor to review footage in specific scenarios - namely goals, penalty decisions, straight red cards, and cases of mistaken identity. Teams themselves also have the ability to request a review, adding an extra layer of accountability to key decisions.
