Money printer goes brrr

The Premier League has done it again - smashed its own transfer spending record like a footballer smashes an ice bath after training. Clubs across the top flight splashed a jaw-dropping £3.4 billion on new signings this summer, blowing past last year's £3.2 billion mark as if it were a mere rounding error.

Player sales brought back £2.2 billion, leaving a net spend of £1.2 billion. That's now five summers in a row where total outlay has topped £2 billion. Restraint? Never heard of it.

Who spent the most?

Manchester City topped the charts at £440.3 million, because of course they did. Chelsea weren't far behind at £342.4 million, with Spurs (£322 million) and Newcastle (£275.2 million) also flexing their wallets. Liverpool, meanwhile, quietly posted the highest net spend at £219.4 million, as Sky Sports reports.

Big-ticket signings

Enzo Fernandez claimed the crown as the summer's priciest Premier League arrival, commanding a fee of up to £125 million. Bradley Barcola (£123 million) and Morgan Rogers (£117 million) rounded out the headline deals.

Championship joins the party

Second-tier clubs weren't exactly penny-pinching either. Championship spending hit a record £289.3 million - up from £204.2 million last summer. Cleverly, they recouped £461.4 million in sales, banking a collective profit of £172.1 million.

Europe left in the dust

Serie A clubs spent £843.6 million and LaLiga managed £603.1 million - healthy sums anywhere else, but pocket change by Premier League standards. Interestingly, Serie A actually led the net spend rankings at £267.1 million when sales were factored in.
