You'd think knees would eventually get the message, but Vivianne Miedema's have clearly not been reading the memo. The 30-year-old Dutch striker has picked up a fresh knee injury in training and will miss the start of Manchester City's title defence.
The club was quick to clarify that this setback is entirely unrelated to her previous knee troubles. Small comfort, that.
Miedema had surgery at the tail end of last season and spent the entire summer grafting her way back to fitness. She was expected to be ready for the 2026/27 pre-season. Instead, she's back on the treatment table for an unspecified spell.
When fit, Miedema remains devastating. She bagged ten goals and five assists in the Women's Super League during 2025/26, racking up 25 appearances and contributing to 19 goals across all competitions. Her final strike? The FA Cup final against Brighton. Not a bad way to sign off.
Since arriving from FC Arsenal in the summer of 2024, Miedema has managed 44 competitive outings, 25 goals and nine assists - all while battling persistent knee issues, as Soccerdonna reports.
