Back from the dead

Nearly two decades after their women's side was disbanded, Charlton Athletic are strutting back into the Women's Super League - and they've brought reinforcements.

A third-place finish in WSL2 last season, followed by a playoff triumph over Leicester, sealed their return to the top flight. Not bad for a club that had to start from scratch.

Fresh faces, fond farewells

Six players have departed, Katie Bradley among them. In their place, experienced heads Ashleigh Neville - poached from Leicester - and Emily van Egmond bolster the squad. Youngsters Leah Davidson and Grace Johnston add some fizz, while goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse remains the defensive anchor, as The Guardian reports.

Off the pitch

Haircare brand Sofnfree will grace Charlton's shirts through a new partnership. There's a shiny TikTok channel too. Less shiny? Ownership group Global Football Partners has put the club up for sale. Nothing screams stability quite like a "For Sale" sign.

Hills means business

Manager Karen Hills knows a thing or two about promotions. She previously guided Tottenham into the WSL - and as a former Charlton player herself, this one's personal. Her goal: make sure the Addicks stick around in the top division.
