Therese Åsland's return could not have come at a better time. The Djurgården skipper had been sidelined for nearly a month with a foot injury - picked up just as her side's season was threatening to unravel completely.
Three straight defeats and a coaching change had already left Djurgården scrambling when Åsland went down ahead of a match against BP. The timing, as she herself acknowledged, was dreadful.
Åsland made her comeback in the match against IFK Norrköping, initially expected to play a limited role. Those plans changed quickly when teammate Olivia Ulenius picked up an injury, forcing the captain into extended action earlier than anticipated.
She stepped up. Djurgården ground out a 1-0 win - a result that lifted them to ninth in the Damallsvenskan table and offered some much-needed breathing room.
Åsland stressed the significance of taking things one match at a time, but the next fixture is hard to ignore. FC Rosengård await, and the stakes are high for a Djurgården side still trying to claw their way out of trouble.
With their captain back on the pitch and a first win in weeks under their belt, there are at least cautious grounds for optimism.
