Just three months after walking through the doors of the Great Britain Boxing academy in May, 19-year-old Ruby White found herself standing on the podium at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a silver medal around her neck.
White, competing in the women's 51kg category, entered the final with an extraordinary unbeaten record spanning 71 fights. That run came to an end against India's Sakshi Chaudhary, who dominated the gold medal bout with a convincing 5-0 verdict.
Rather than dwell on the defeat, White has already set her sights on a future meeting with Chaudhary. The teenager wants to refine her game plan and build experience at senior level before their paths cross again.
She described competing at the Commonwealth Games as a dream come true - and a remarkable achievement for her very first major international tournament, as Sky Sports reports.
White's rapid rise has not gone unnoticed. Two-time Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams - White's idol - has personally encouraged the young boxer to stay focused on her goals. That kind of endorsement from British boxing royalty speaks volumes about the potential many see in her.
