Angel Reese will suit up for the Atlanta Dream when they face the Minnesota Lynx after the WNBA reversed a technical foul that had threatened to trigger an automatic one-game ban.
The technical was handed to Reese during the fourth quarter of the Dream's clash with the Portland Fire following a collision with guard Carla Leite. Officials judged the contact worthy of a call as Leite attempted to box out Reese - a decision that drew immediate pushback.
Dream head coach Karl Smesko made clear he felt the technical was unwarranted. Had the call stood, it would have been Reese's eighth of the season, automatically sidelining her for the Lynx fixture. Her seventh came back on 9 July against the Seattle Storm.
The stakes couldn't be higher for the timing. The Lynx matchup is the Dream's final contest before the FIBA World Cup break, making Reese's availability all the more crucial.
She heads into the game in superb form, having just posted her 28th double-double of the campaign with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
