European Leagues go on the attack

European Leagues have escalated their dispute with FIFA, lodging fresh accusations of abusive conduct over the women's football calendar. The organisation claims FIFA's approach is actively undermining the growth and financial health of women's professional leagues - and putting players' bodies on the line.

A complaint years in the making

This isn't the first swing. A prior complaint was filed back in 2024, targeting FIFA's decision-making process around expanded formats in men's competitions. That original filing, however, has stalled within the European Union system with no resolution in sight.

FIFA hits back

FIFA isn't taking it quietly. A spokesperson said the organisation was disappointed by the allegations and pointed out they hadn't even been formally notified about the complaint's extension. They stressed the women's international match calendar was shaped with input from multiple stakeholders, as ESPN reports.

FIFPRO steps aside

In a notable twist, FIFPRO Europe - originally a co-complainant - has pulled out of legal proceedings against FIFA. The exit came as part of a cooperation agreement signed in June, which included negotiations over the match calendar itself. Whether that deal pays off remains to be seen.
