Relegation-threatened Players Who Should Look For A Transfer

Some of these clubs might not have done enough to keep the Premier League dream alive, but there are many players who might not be too keen on playing in the Championship next season.

As written in a previous article, Southampton have already been relegated. Everton, Leicester City, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are all in the relegation battle. We’ll look at some players who should consider a transfer if they are to be relegated:

James Maddison – Leicester City

The Foxes’ star man really has no place in the Championship. With 10 goals and nine assists so far this season, Maddison should look for a transfer regardless of if Leicester drop down a league or not. An attacking midfielder who fills the No. 10 position, the likes of Tottenham and Newcastle could be a good fit for the Englishman.

Jordan Pickford – Everton

Currently England’s first choice goalkeeper, there is no way he’ll be playing Championship football next season. Having just signed a new long-term contract, he might even help Everton financially with a decent sum for the sale. The 29-year-old would be a logical successor to David De Gea or Hugo Lloris of Manchester United and Tottenham, respectively. Hugo Lloris has had a massive fall from grace this season, being at the end of his top level.

Romeo Lavia – Southampton

The Belgian midfielder swapped Manchester City for Southampton ahead of this season, and the 19-year-old has been the absolute highlight of Southampton’s season. He would add quality to more or less any team he would join and is destined for bigger leagues than the Championship.

Willy Gnonto – Leeds United

A seriously gifted winger, the Italy international will have spent his last season at Elland Road if they are to be relegated. At just 19 years old, Gnonto still has plenty of football to come, and has attracted interest from numerous Premier League outfits, as well as being a popular figure in Serie A.

Brennan Johnson – Nottingham Forest

Forest’s top scorer this season has been one of the few players Steve Cooper could count on this season. The efforts of the Wales international has been noticed by many mid-table clubs, and he should have plenty of opportunities to stay in the Premier League if Forest are to go down.

James Ward-Prowse – Southampton

A club legend at this point, the 28-year-old has spent his entire professional career with the Saints. This of course raises the question of if he would like to stay at Southampton and bring his boyhood club back to the Premier League, however his skillset is definitely of Premier League calibre. With a notorious free kick ability and incredible work ethic, could there be a top-flight club who could persuade him to leave Southampton?

Harvey Barnes – Leicester

Having reached double figures of Premier League goals, Harvey Barnes is an attacking force to be reckoned with. Still just 25, Barnes should be playing Premier League football next season. The likes of Aston Villa, Brighton, and Newcastle might be the next stop for the Englishman.

Luis Sinisterra – Leeds

Arriving from Dutch football and Feyenoord last summer, relegation is not what Sinisterra imagined when joining Leeds. The Colombian has seen a fair share of injuries this season, however this has not scared top-flight teams’ interest away. With seven goals in 22 games, it could end after just one season at Elland Road.

Amadou Onana – Everton

Signed from Lille last summer, the Senegal born Belgian international has shown plenty of promise and ability this season. Energising the midfield of a disappointing Everton side, Onana has raised interest from some of the biggest clubs in England. It is quite unlikely to see him in the Championship the coming season.

Morgan Gibbs-White – Nottingham Forest

Having used the season to grow as a leader and player, Gibbs-White has no intention of returning to the Championship any time soon. A creative player who takes control of most situations, he would be a good fit for many Premier League clubs.

Other players to be mentioned:

Youri Tielemans – Leicester
Timothy Castagne – Leicester
Tyler Adams – Leeds
Alex Iwobi – Everton
Idrissa Gueye - Everton
