Safari Rally Kenya Set to Proceed

The upcoming Safari Rally Kenya is set to take place as scheduled, unaffected by the administrative issues involving P1 Fuels, the fuel supplier for the World Rally Championship (WRC). This rally marks a significant step in the motorsport industry's push for sustainability.
P1 Fuels Administration
P1 Fuels, appointed as the control fuel supplier in 2022, has entered administration due to financial difficulties, as per a ruling in Germany. The company faces serious limitations on its asset management, requiring approval for any asset disposals. The future of P1 Fuels remains unclear as restructuring efforts are considered.
FIA's Intervention
In light of P1 Fuels’ current situation, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has stepped in to guarantee that competitors at the Safari Rally Kenya will have access to the necessary fuel. The FIA has also covered customs fees for a shipment of fuel that recently reached the port of Mombasa.
Future Planning for WRC Events
The FIA has confirmed that the fuel designated for the upcoming Safari Rally Kenya, taking place from March 20-23, 2025, is currently in transit and will be available for the event. The organization is actively engaged in discussions to secure ongoing sustainable fuel supplies for future WRC events.
Tender Process Ahead
Prior to the insolvency of P1 Fuels, a tender process for WRC fuel was already underway. It is anticipated that the FIA may expedite this procurement process, aiming to appoint a new supplier in time for the next WRC round, which will occur in the Canary Islands from April 24-27.
Impact on Other Events
In addition to the WRC, P1 Fuels was expected to serve as the fuel supplier for the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) this year. However, reports indicate that British sustainable fuel supplier Coryton will now take on that contract.
