Potential 2022/2023 PFA Team of the Year
With just a few games left of the season, we take a look at how this season’s Team of the Year might look like in May.
Goalkeeper: Alisson
One of the more open places for this years PFA Team of the Year. The likes of NIck Pope and David Raya are also close contenders.
The Liverpool goalkeeper has been one of the few players to live up to his teams standards. With the best post-shot expected goals saved of the season so far, Alisson is deservedly on the list and is this seasons light amongst a rather bleak Liverpool squad.
Right back: Kieran Trippier
Returning to the Premier League after a stint with Atletico Madrid in Spain, Trippier has set the standard for an excellent Newcastle defense. Contributing offensively as well, Trippier sits with one goal and seven assists so far.
Left Back: Oleksandr Zinchenko
Signing for Arsenal from Manchester City for €35 million, Zinchenko is looking like one of the season’s best purchases. With great composure an technical ability, he has had a key role in Arsenal’s splendid season.
Centre Back: William Saliba
The 22-year old signed for Arsenal in 2019, but has been loaned out for the last three seasons, lastly at Marseille. With his 6 ft 4 in stature, Saliba has been integral in Arsenal’s faultless back line. The young Frenchman has cemented his spot in the squad alongside Gabriel.
Centre Back: Sven Botman
Alongside Fabian Schar, Botman is part of on the Premier League’s best centre back partnerships. A defensive rock, the Dutchman has elevated Newcastle and has been one of the key reasons Newcastle has conceded so few goals this Premier League season.
Defensive Midfield: Casemiro
One of the signings of the season, Casemiro has been credited by some as single-handedly changing the mentality and robustness of Manchester United. His presence has seen a formidable increase in form and confidence for the Manchester United squad.
Central Midfield: Martin Ødegaard
Mikel Arteta gave swapped the armband from Granit Xhaka to Ødegaard ahead of this season. The skipper has led by example with 11 goals and 8 assists so far this season. The Norwegian could be the one lifting the Premier League trophy for Arsenal after an almost 20-year league title drought.
Central Midfield: Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne could secure his fifth spot on the PFA Team of the Year this season, being once again on the top of the assists table. Currently standing with 15 assists, De Bruyne has quickly found a connection with City’s Erling Haaland.
Left Wing: Marcus Rashford
Having his best season for the Red Devils, Marcus Rashford is proving his worth this season. Rashford has blossomed under Erik Ten Haag, and has been a catalyst for Manchester United.
Striker: Erling Braut Haaland
Virtually every club with deep pockets was trying to get Erling Haaland’s signature last summer, and it was Manchester City who managed to secure the deal. With high expectations after a standout season with Borussia Dortmund, Haaland has been a force to be reckoned with. Breaking record after record, the Norwegian striker has already put the ball in the back of the net a staggering 32 times. Haaland is arguably having the best debut season of any Premier League player in history.
Right Wing: Bukayo Saka
After missing the crucial penalty against Italy in the 2020 Euros, Saka’s career path has only looked upwards. The young Englishman has contributes with both goals and assists and has amongst the likes of Gabriel Martinelli is having an outstanding season for current Premier League leaders Arsenal.
